In1984, Captain Manfred Draxl († 2006) together with his wife Maria founded the company in Haren/Ems, a shipping town with a fine maritime tradition. With the commissioning of the multipurpose freighter "MARMAN" in 1985, the shipping company began operating successfully and has consistently continued to do so in the following years. So far, 21 modern multipurpose and container ships have been put to sea. The future of the company is still oriented towards expansion. By 2010, a total of nine additional units in the multipurpose and container shipping sector will be taken over. Furthermore, several older units were successfully sold recently.
In 1997, in the course of the constant expansion of the company, a separate service enterprise for repair work was founded. MTS Marine Technik- und Schiffsservice GmbH has been able to establish itself in this sector and now looks after not only ships from the Draxl shipping company, but also those of other shipping companies.
Furthermore, a freighting company was founded in 1999. The DC Draxl Chartering GmbH is responsible for the freighting of the multipurpose freighters of the Draxl shipping company and contracts cargos of third-party tonnage in the multipurpose sector.
In 2000, the founders passed the company on to their successors. Thus, the continuation of the company is ensured. The education and many years of experience of captain and shipping merchant Dieter Esders-Draxl (managing partner) and his wife Bettina Draxl (merchant) make them especially qualified for the functions of management.
